The high line, new york
A project that won my heart besides the sparkle and the fizz of the city, an elevated park that snakes through the air along the Hudson.
The High Line is complete reuse and transformation of an abandoned industrial structure into a verdant public park 30 feet above the ground. The design hearkens back to the era when the West Side of Manhattan was America's premier working waterfront. The mile-and-a-half-long, 30ft high former railroad snakes through West Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and into the Meatpacking District. Constructed in the 1930s as part of New York’s west side railway, the track was used to deliver meat to warehouses on Manhattan’s Lower West Side.
This project has turned to be the main artery that has rendered new life to this area and the local campaigning has also lead to a lot of events happening there thus making this a stage for great activity. Something that could have been neglected has been transformed into an imaginative, varied space both tranquil and pulsing with life.
I would simply say this project is amazing.
